Pop the champagne, YOU’RE ENGAGED! As a newly engaged couple it’s time for your engagement photo session. These are so important to couples because it gives you and your photographer a chance to get to know one another before your wedding day. As your engagement session photographer it’s my job to make you feel relaxed and at ease while providing the direction needed to capture who you are as a couple.

In this blog, you’ll find all of my helpful tips for getting the most out of your engagement session experience and how to prepare before hand.

What Can I Do With My Engagement Photos?

  • Use them for Save The Date cards

  • Use prints as decor at your wedding

  • Create a guest sign in book with them for your wedding

  • Use them as decor for your home

When Should I Take Engagement Photos?

It depends on what sort of vibe you want for your photos. This could be a certian season or during a specific event going on in your area. Here are some helpful tips to guide you:

  • As soon as you hire your photographer

  • Before you send out save the dates

  • 4-6 Months prior to the wedding

CHOOSE YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION LOCATION

I recommend choosing a location that has been meaningful in your relationship. I’m also always up for exploring a new spot together if you have an idea too! It could be the place you had your first date, first kiss, took that favorite trip to, got engaged, etc. Having a meaningful location creates a deeper meaning to your photos and shows who you are as a couple.

STYLE YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Bring something with you that makes your session feel authentic to who you are as a couple! Your photos should tell the story of who you are as a couple. I encourage you to add any element of "you" that you'd like! Bring your dog, a favorite drink or anything special to your relationship. As a couple review photos online that you both like so that you can share your vision with your photographer. You can view examples on my Pinterest account here.

GETTING READY FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Give yourself plenty of time to get ready and make sure to wear something that looks and feels like you. We are documenting YOUR life together as a couple and we want it to feel authentically YOU! Schedule your hair and makeup appointment a few hours in advance before your engagement session. You will look and feel great in front of the camera. Plus, this is a great way to try out stylists for before your wedding day! Before your session make sure to get your engagement ring cleaned as it will be photographed during your engagement session.

AFTER YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

The wedding planning process can feel all-consuming, but it will feel great to get your engagement photos marked off of your wedding to do list. You are already going to be dressed up so take some time after the session just for the two of you with a dinner date!
